About Us

The Wise Mind offers a range of services, provided by dedicated, qualified and experienced therapists to generate positive outcomes for clients and their families. Our key principle is to assist people in unleashing their own potential and inner strengths so that they can manage and overcome their emotional distress and difficulties.

Our focus on stimulating growth and empowerment leads to living a meaningful life that is beautifully balanced. Psychological distress arises when one experiences unpleasant situations or goes through an emotional roller coaster. This feeling of distress can build over time and develop into major health issues and diseases.

Our Services

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

What is DBT?

DBT is a proven effective therapy for people with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), who have difficulty regulating opposing emotions, thoughts, and behaviours and struggle to create a balance between acceptance and change. DBT skills are also effective with Depression, Suicidal ideation, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

DBT validates emotional extremes while building skills to help people experience their emotions without necessarily acting upon them, to effectively problem solve, and to navigate the relationships in their environment (i.e. family, work, school, and social). DBT helps people create a life worth living.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy

Relationship Counselling

The Wise Mind Psychotherapy & Counselling Practice offers Gottman Method Couples Therapy. It is considered to be the gold standard in relationship counselling, helping couples (in both heterosexual and same sex relationships) repair, rebuild and rejuvenate their relationships.

This is an evidenced based, world-renowned approach, developed by Drs John and Julie Gottman in Seattle, WA (USA). Following more than 3500 couples and based on 40 years of research examining characteristics of successful relationships, they were able to predict with great accuracy (over 94%) whether a marriage would survive or have ended after 6 years. This research informed the theory of relationship functioning which underpins the Gottman Method.

FAQs

Appointments are available from Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. However, we can accommodate you in out of business hours to make sure we are able to provide support when you need it. Individuals please allow 50+ minutes per session, and couples 90 minutes per joint session. Feel free to get in touch with us to book an appointment at your convenience.

It is not necessary to have a referral to see a therapist. You can choose to be seen without it too, as a self-referral. We welcome referrals from different sources, however, Medicare rebates will be available if you have a referral from your GP, accompanying a mental health treatment plan. You can attend your first session for a fee (per service basis), following which you can discuss a referral and eligibility for a mental health treatment plan with your GP. The referral can be attained from a GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. If you are not looking to obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may also be entitled for a rebate as a part of your private health insurance.
