Trauma

Trauma is a result of an unpleasant experience such as mental, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, a life-threatening situation, a lifelong injury, or an accident that mentally and physically affected you. It can give rise to feelings of detachment from the world, trust issues, and blame games with the self, feeling watchful or on guard, angry or emotional outbursts, physical symptoms like sweating or heart palpitations, nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive memories of the event that you have no control over, feeling like there is nothing to look forward to, and distress when you come across things that remind you of the event.

The impact of trauma may be short or long-term, depending on personal circumstances and individuals. It can negatively affect all aspects of your life, including relationships, work and study if it is not processed properly. It is important to know that going through trauma does not imply weakness in character. It is a real reaction to a real life event.
